Off-Piste Guiding

Expect adventure, expect hidden powder stashes, expect long untracked descents...

Guided Backcountry skiing is all about making the most of the conditions to ensure you enjoy some wonderful adventurous skiing.

The Guided Backcountry Skiing in the Valais area of the Swiss Alps is one of off-piste and ski touring’s best kept secrets and offers huge potential for the adventurous skier. The area is characterised by high alpine terrain, deep valleys and charming alpine villages. This area is a fantastic antidote to the more heavily developed areas of the western Alps. Powder descents of 1,500m abound and there are many vast bowls where fresh tracks can be found even weeks after the last snowfall!

The area features a high and comprehensive lift system and multiple slope aspects which ensure good conditions throughout the season. We make the most of the 5 resorts in the Val d’Anniviers; Zinal, Grimentz, Vercorin, St Luc and Chandolin. With so much on offer your day could include a descent to the Moiry Dam, access to the renowned wilderness of the Vallon du Rechy, powder runs in the trees of Vercorin or an exciting couloir high above St Luc to mention just a few. No mass tourism, no high-rise buildings, and few skiers off piste; the area is attractive and traditional with only tentative signs of any new developments.

We cater for all levels of off-piste skiers - book a guide for one day or more!

Be Prepared!

Backcountry skiing is all about getting away from the crowds. In the Val d’Anniviers, slopes don’t get skied out at anything like the rate they do in bigger resorts; however, walking, usually on your skis with skins, massively enhances your off-piste opportunities. Whilst there is a huge amount of lift-accessed off-piste skiing in the area, often just a brief 20 minutes walking can double the amount of off-piste terrain available.

For that reason, we strongly recommend a ‘touring set up’ (touring bindings and skins) and for snow boarders, split boards.

It is important everyone’s safety and enjoyment, that we’re aware of your experience, ability level and fitness for your off-piste adventure.

Please note we regularly interchange the terms off-piste, backcountry and freeride. For us they really mean the same thing: “skiing ungroomed terrain away from the pistes.”
