Zinal to Zermatt Unplugged Ski Tour 05 - 09 April 2025

Every April since 2007, Zermatt hosts its own music festival with a great line up of international artists (previous years have included Paolo Nutini, Emile Sande, KT Tunstall.) We have long thought it would be fun to ski tour over from Zinal and enjoy a couple of days of Zermatt's world class skiing and the atmosphere of the legendary music festival in the evening.

ZZ Tour 1

2018 was the inaugural ZZ Unplugged Ski Tour, we are pleased to announce it's in our 2025 programme. The line-up is yet to be confirmed but rest assured if previous years are anything to go by, you won't be disappointed!

Kyrgyzstan

Visiting Kyrgyzstan should be at the top of everyone's bucket list: it's beautiful, welcoming, accessible and crucially, still relatively untouched. Kyrgyzstan is a mecca for ski-touring, our trip is in the Terskey-Ala-Too range based around the two ski centres of Karakol and Jergalan, excellent ski touring terrain in the east of Kyrgyzstan close to the Lake Issyk Kul.

Japan - Ski-touring adventure 28 January - 07 February 2025

Japan 1

I’m delighted to be launching the GZBA ski trip to Japan. Over the past 15 years I have been a regular visitor to this wonderful country and its magical mountains.

The 2025 ski trip will be a powder road trip of Northern Honshu, the main island of Japan. As always our aim is to combine the main ingredients that are the essence of Japanese skiing; unrivalled powder, fascinating cultural history, memorable food and end of the day relaxing in thermal pools known in Japanese as ‘onsens’ and most importantly local Japanese support, in recent years backcountry skiing has soared in popularity in Japan and local knowledge is key to getting off the beaten track. I have teamed up with my friend Koichiro Awano, a brilliant skier with a passion for seeking out the wild side of Japan.

Italy - Ski-touring in Alpe Devero 17 - 22 February 2025

Alpe Devero 1

In March 2022 we found our ‘new’ favourite ski touring destination; Alpe Devero, in part because of it’s wild and beautiful location and in part because of the wonderful Agriturismo accommodation we found to stay in. Not far from the Simplon Pass Alpe Devero is a step back in time. Romantically you reach the penzione on ski (45 mins from the roadhead) our overnight bags can be carried up by skidoo. The ski touring is ideal for novices and the more adventurous alike, each day there are excellent tours in all directions from the door step. The Agriturismo is family run and the food is absolutely delicious offering the best of local home grown produce from their animals and vegetables all farmed in a sustainable, traditional way.

Switzerland - guided ski-touring and off-piste in the Löschental January 2025

Lotschental 1

The Lötschental valley is just one hours drive from our home turf and especially in early season it is a superb location with endlessly long runs using the lift system known as Leuchneralp which quickly whisks you to 3000m.

On top of this the ski-touring gives access to incredibly wild and remote terrain. with many beautiful descents. We are putting together a weekend of adventurous off-piste skiing and ski-touring, ideal for those looking for a challenge. The ascent to the Petersgrat and the long powder ski descent that emerges through stunning mountain forest right at our hotel in Blatten is one of our favourite ski tours in Switzerland.

Switzerland - Ski-tour the Bishorn 4153m dates From 18 March - 6 May 2025

bishorn 1

The Val d’Anniviers is blessed in many ways, as well as averaging 300 days of sunshine per year the valley (or at least the Zinal branch) sports five 4,000m peaks on it’s skyline and fortunately the most northerly, the Bishorn, happens to be one of the ‘easier’ 4,000 meter summits in the Alps reachable bottom to top (and vice versa) on skis (or splitboards). Of course in reality there is nothing ‘easy’ about climbing or skiing 4,000m peaks; altitude acclimatisation, difficulty sleeping in the hut; negotiating crevasses on the glacier to the summit all combine to make an ascent of the Bishorn a worthy challenge and achievement. Hit it just after a dump of snow on a cold day and you will be rewarded with a 2,500m powder descent from the summit to Zinal… hard to beat!
